There are several ways to fertilise orchids or bonsai. Obviously you put a bit of the good stuff in when you first pot or repot. Usually from then on you use a liquid like Campbells for flowering and non flowering periods for orchids. Also you can scatter a few beads of a granulated fertilizer amongst the leaves but this usually feeds the !birds! and fertilizes the surrounding area as much as anything. This tends to roll off bonsai. And of course if you have moved on from cymbidium orchids and now growing cattleyas, dendrobiums, even vandas these are sometimes wired to boards or trees with sphagnum moss being wrapped around their roots.

These fertilizer baskets will allow you to fill the container with the fertilizer of your choice and then to stick the prong into either the flat surface of the pot or into the sphagnum moss at virtually any angle, even above the orchid or any other plant. You can periodically top them up and clean them or change fertilisiers depending on seasons and needs of the plant. There are 24 large baskets. The basket itself is like a small egg cup..
