HEARTT 2000 (Help Ensure Aids Rescue Together in Thailand)
In addition to helping patients such as Somporn, the main work of Drs Jureerat and Seur is in helping HIV/AIDs patients in the Chonburi region, including
Pattaya. They have established the HEARTT 2000 fund to aid their vital
work. Please support this charity if you are in Pattaya.
"HEARTT 2000 (Help Ensure Aids Rescue Together in Thailand), is organized and operated by Dr. Jureerat Bowon, presently a Professor in charge of the HIV Clinic of the Chonburi Regional Public Hospital (70 km South-East of Bangkok, and probably 65 km. Northerly of Pattaya) and Dr. Philippe Seur, a French physician, established in Thailand, presently living and serving patients in Pattaya.
They have developed a Clinical Research Unit for the treatment of low income people, in Pattaya, to supplement the offerings of the Chonburi Regional Hospital's HIV Clinic. Patients with symptoms of AIDS must be treated first for the various opportunistic infections (Tuberculosis, Pneumonia, Meningitis, Retinitis), the onset of which often brings the infection to the attention of the patient.
Such care is usually provided at the hospital; they must then be given Anti-Retro-Viral drugs (such as AZT and DDI) that suppress HIV virus replication and its detrimental activity in the body, and Dr. Philippe has become a recognized expert on the use of the "AIDS Cocktail", a combination of several such drugs, patterned to each individual patient's needs, and with care to accommodate any allergies of the individual patient.
Such drugs enable the body to rebuild its immune system previously damaged by HIV. The problem facing HEARTT and its patients is the current high cost of this treatment. These drugs have to be prescribed for many months."
