As presented at monthly meetings by Marjorie Wood
Callignee
1st March 1887
Mr. President
and Councillors
Traralgon Shire
Sirs
I wish to draw your attention, with a view to compensation for injuries received to myself and horse, while crossing a small bridge or culvert.
I was coming from Traralgon on Monday 21st., riding, and leading another horse. The horse I was riding got its foot through a hole in the bridge and fell over on top of me, the horse I was leading, pulled me from under, or else I should have been more badly hurt than as it happened I was. I could not extricate the horse myself, but others who saw the accident helped me. The horse was so badly hurt I could not bring it home, and am sure it will be many months, if ever it gets over it. As part of my living is made with the horse, it is a serious loss - without taking into consideration the bruising received to myself -
The culvert or bridge is one only lately repaired and is the first culvert after leaving F. Discher’s on Callignee Road.
I think by asking for the sum of £10. 0. 0, I will be under the amount of damage done, and request, gentlemen, you will kindly take into your consideration this Council meeting.
By giving the above your due consideration you will greatly oblige
Yours very truly
John Morgan. Jnr.
