Bairnsdale Coach Tour

By Joy Lancaster

On Sunday, 9th October, the coach departed from the Kath Teychenne Centre at 8:00 a.m., arriving at Stratford at 9:00 a.m. for our first visit of the day, the East Coast Eel Farm. This venue also had a shop selling Turkish wares such as carpets, china and clothing. After morning tea we were back on the coach and on our way to the second visit of the day, The All Time Antiques and Clock Museum at Bairnsdale. There are over 1,000 antique clocks in this building, with over 500 of them in the museum. The piece de resistance being the animated monks’ clock that depicts the monks processing the grapes into wine.

Lunch was enjoyed undercover on the banks of the Mitchell River. The Radin Studio and Egg Craft Gallery, our next stop, had a large display of sculptures made from eggs of varying sizes. Beautiful arrangements of roses and orchids, birds and famous people and all made from egg shells.

Our last visit for the day was the Bairnsdale and East Gippsland Historical Museum. This building was built for the Presbyterian Church and became one of Bairnsdale’s schools. It has an extensive assortment of memorabilia on display, with a panoramic view of Macleods Morass from the first floor bay window. After a delicious afternoon tea there, it was time once again to board the bus and head for home. All the venues for this excursion had something totally different to offer. Our thanks to Thelma for organising a most enjoyable day.
