Annual General Meeting – formal notice of the A.G.M. is given on the following page of this bulletin. At the conclusion of the formal part of the meeting, our monthly meeting guest speaker, Mr John Power, will speak on My 33 years at the A.P.M..

Monthly meeting guest speaker, Mr Clarrie Heron, will talk about My Life as a Land Surveyor.

30th April – Sunday, 8:00 a.m.

Excursion to Schwerkolt Cottage and Historical Museum, Mitcham. Departing from outside the Kath Teychenne Centre, Breed Street (the Historical Society rooms) at 8:00 a.m., we will stop for morning tea en route and arrive at Schwerkolt Cottage at 11:00 a.m. for a guided tour.

Schwerkolt Cottage is an original pioneer’s stone cottage in a garden setting surrounded by 2.25 hectares of bushland. The building of the cottage commenced in 1884 and the three rooms are furnished in the style of the period. There are several out buildings including the slab barn, the stone smokehouse and wine cellar. Johann August Schwerkolt was born in 1823 at Burschen near Schwiebus in Prussia and the story of his family is one of versatility, resourcefulness and diligent labour.

The cost of the trip is $22.60 per person, which includes transport, morning tea and admission (bring your own lunch). A deposit of $10 is required when booking. Bookings can be made by phoning Thelma on 5174 4762.

Monthly meeting guest speaker, Mr Andrew Beauglehall, Area Manager of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia will talk about The History of Banking and Modern Banking Today.

Mr Richard Jeffery will make a cameo appearance to talk about banking in the 1950s.

13th June – Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.

Monthly meeting guest speaker, Mr Geoff Esler, formerly a linotype operator for the Traralgon Journal and Record circa 1940-1950, will talk about his memoirs: Geoff Esler Remembers.

Working Bees

Reminder – Working bees will be held as usual in our rooms on the 2nd and 4th Monday afternoon of each month, excluding the month of January and public holidays. Everyone is welcome.
